8 Easy Home Remedies for Common Cold

Following my previous post on “How to fight common cold and flu” here I am going to provide some easy home remedies that really work and can be used along those measures to ensure the minimal pain and suffering due to the symptoms of common cold and flu.

Hot Ginger Tea

Take 300ml of water and bring it to boil. Add an inch of grated ginger root in boiling water and let it simmer for couple of minutes and then take water off from heat. Add tea spoon of honey and drink.

  • This ginger tea will help fight against viruses and bacteria that causes cold and flu.
  • The ginger contains antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which help to boost up the immune system.
  • This tea is also antihistamine and decongestant and helps to ease colds symptoms.

Ginger Lemon and Honey

3942.jpgAnother great infusion that greatly helps with common cold and flu is the concoction of honey, lemon and ginger. Take tea spoon of Honey and add equal amount of ginger juice and lemon juice. Mix well and take it.

  • The ginger contains chemicals called sesquiterpenes which are specifically used to target common cold viruses.
  • Honey will keep you hydrated and will help you with congestion.
  • The ginger root known from ages to cure pain and ginger powder is taken since long to relive pain and reduce fever.
  • Lemon is a great source of Vitamin C and will boost your immune system and may help you fight against the symptoms of cold.

Chicken Soup

Ingredients 

One small onion finely chopped

Two carrots diced into pieces

One large stalk celery

One cup thinly sliced cabbage cabbage

8 cups chicken broth obtained by boiling 3 lbs chicken

Salt and Black Pepper to the taste

Two table spoon vegetable oil

 

Directions

Put the vegetable oil in a pan and turn on the medium heat. Add onion and saut for few minutes until slightly pink.  Shred chicken into fine pieces and add with onions. Now add broth, salt and pepper and bring it to boil. Now finally add the vegetables and simmer until vegetables are cooked. Turn off the heat and enjoy while still hot.

This soup is not only full of those healthy nutrients that your body needs to fight the illness but will also be pleasure for your taste buds. Besides it will help fight phlegm and sore throat.

Vitamin C Immune Booster Gummies

1/2 cup grapefruit juice

1/4 cup orange juice

1/4 cup lemon juice

2 Tablespoon raw honey

1 table spoon Vitamin C powder

7 tablespoons of gelatine

Directions

Heat all the juices on low flame, add honey and mix well until melted. Gradually mix in gelatine powder and stir well until dissolved. Remove from hit and add vitamin C powder.   Now add the mixture to the small shapes and refrigerate.  Take a gummy or two everyday. This is especially good even before catching a cold. Since Vitamin C helps boost your immune system and there will be fewer chances to catch common cold and flu.

Honey and Turmeric Milk

almond-turmeric-lattes-800x1200.jpgTurmeric milk gives relief from cough and cold. Take a cup of milk and bring it to boil. Now remove the milk from heat and add tea spoon of ground turmeric and tea spoon of honey. Mix all the ingredients well. Drink while warm.

Turmeric offers many health benefits since it has anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties and is therefore commonly used as traditional remedy for a cough, cold, and other respiratory tract infections.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Take a teaspoon of honey and tea spoon of apple cider vinegar. Now add pinch of  cyanne pepper and take it. This concoction will help creating an alkaline environment that helps kill bacteria and viruses. Start taking it at the first sign of illness and repeat several times a day until the symptoms subside.

Liquorice Tea

Liquorice, or licorice, is the root of Glycyrrhiza glabra from which a sweet flavour can be extracted. The liquorice plant is a herbaceous perennial legume native to southern Europe and parts of Asia, such as India. The most common use of liquorice world-wide is to treat coughs and colds. Liquorice is especially useful for treating coughs with sticky phlegm, or for treating colds that accompany stomach upset.

 

Ingredients

2 quarts water
1 table spoon liquorice root (also comes in tea bags)
1 finger’s length fresh ginger, sliced

Directions

Fill a pot with 2 quarts of water. Add the liquorice root and fresh ginger. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Pour tea through a small mesh strainer and drink.
